Fifth Grade - Current Events Presentation
As part of our Technology Skills classes, you will create a Google Slides presentation about a current event.
Your current event must be from an article that you locate on Dogonews.com, a current events website for elementary students.
Each student will create his or her own presentation, and you may choose any article on Dogonews that you think is interesting.

What will this project help you do?
This project will help you understand what a current event is, and what information we should understand when we read about a current event. If you do not know how to create a Google Slides presentation, then this project will also teach you how to do this. If you already know how to create a Google Slides presentation, then this project will help you practice these skills.
By the time you complete this project, you should be able to do the following:

By the time you complete this project, you should be able to do the following:
- Locate a current event and describe the important details about the event in a Google Slides presentation.
- Log into your Google Drive account.
- Create and name a new Google Slides presentation.
- Open a saved Google Slides presentation.
- Change the background theme in your presentation.
- Change the font, size, and color of your text.
- Check the spelling in your presentation.
- Search for graphics about your topic, and insert these graphics on a slide.
- Resize a graphic in a slide.
- Add, delete, and move slides in your presentation.
- Use the undo and redo arrows to make changes on a slide.
- Share my presentation with a classmates & your teacher.
- Present you topic to your class
What does your presentation have to include?
Go to DOGO News, and choose a news story that you think is interesting and important. Each of these items must be on a separate slide. Your slides don't have to be exactly in this order, but it may help you to follow this order.
- The first slide will have your name and the title of your presentation
- What is the title of this news story? Who wrote it?
- What is the topic of the story (what is the article about)?
- When did the story/event take place?
- Where does this story/event take place?
- Why is this story important to you, and why would it be important to others?
- What did you learn from this story? Do you have any questions that the story did not answer?
How long will you have to complete this current events presentation?
You will have three weeks during your Library Media Center time to work on this project. Also, you are welcome to work on the project outside of school. After the three weeks, the students will present their Google Slides presentation to the class.
